Students at Garden City Middle School are getting ready for the holidays by building and designing a cardboard village! Each student worked on separate buildings including a town hall, candy store, and train station to make one village together.
Today, students at Garden City High School participated in disability awareness activities such as singing their commitment to inclusion, learning about augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices, and using a VR headset to experience sensory overload.
Today, Stewart students visited Garden City Middle School to learn about the different language classes they can take next year. Students currently in foreign language classes and teachers throughout the department shared information about their class lessons and activities. Yesterday was Homestead's first grade winter concert. Students sang holiday favorites, recited a poem, and acted out a silent song (with a special surprise of the parents joining in)! Great job to all ❄️

This morning, kindergarteners at Hemlock performed in their 2024 winter concert! Students sang five songs, recited a poem, and displayed their snowflake artwork. 🎤❄️
Today is Class at the Court at Hofstra University. Seventh grade physical education students are ready for a fun day filled with activities centering on health, wellness, and fitness—ending with a Hofstra men's basketball game!
Stewart School third graders celebrated Thanksgiving this morning with Thanksgiving-themed songs and plays! Each class performed their own play, which were followed with songs such as “Mashed Potatoes” and “Turkey Tango.” Happy Thanksgiving to all! 🦃
Stratford 5th graders led their school's food drive by donating, collecting, and organizing nonperishable food items to be delivered to local veterans in need. Thank you to these students for their support!
This Week in Garden City - November 18th - November 22nd
Mrs. Joyce's second grade class at Stratford School enjoyed learning about Election Day by electing a class mascot. The candidates were Piggie and Elephant, from the Mo Willems series. Students completed ballots using privacy booths, and the winner was Piggie! Each week a student will have the opportunity to bring Piggie home for the weekend along with a journal to record their adventures together.
This Week in Garden City - November 11th - November 15th
Garden City School District has openings for school lunch monitors. This position is part time for 2-3 hours, midday, every day school is in session. You will be responsible for supervising children in the cafeteria and while at recess. The hourly wage is $16.50. Fingerprinting is required by NYS Education Department.

On Saturday night, Garden City's marching band, junior varsity cheerleaders, varsity cheerleaders, and kickline squad volunteered at the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night event at Eisenhower Park. Their music and cheering brought smiles and energy to those around them and truly made the event special. Thank you to the band, cheerleaders, and kickline for an impactful Saturday night!
On Wednesday Oct. 16, Stratford Elementary School fourth and fifth grade students lined the hallways to cheer for the second and third graders as they marched in the Positive Words Parade. The students created and held up signs promoting kindness and supporting others in honor of Unity Day. Later in the afternoon, the fourth and fifth graders had the chance to participate in the parade while the younger students cheered along!
On Saturday, September 28th, Monica Navarrete received the 17th Assembly District’s 2024 “Women of Distinction” Award for her contributions to the Island Trees community. Monica has spent over 10 years volunteering for several organizations throughout the town including Dollars for Scholars, the PTA, and the Counsel of PTAs. She is also a Senior Clerk at Stewart School and a catechist for Saint Bernard’s Church. Congratulations on your award, Monica!
Frau Basile’s eighth-grade German class has been writing letters to their pen pals, who are students at a school in Unna, Germany! This experience is allowing the students to develop their understanding of the German language, explore German culture, and communicate with peers of the same age. The students are enjoying getting to know their German friends and hope to establish long-lasting relationships!
