GCHS alumnus and coach inducted into the Nassau County High School Athletics Hall of Fame

On Oct. 7, Garden City High School alumnus Trevor Yeboah-Kodie and longtime coach Michael Heedles were inducted into the Nassau County High School Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2026.
Yeboah-Kodie excelled as a two-sport standout and is one of the most accomplished athletes in Garden City history. As a football player, he was named a Gatorade Player of the Year and led the Trojans to multiple championships through his explosive athleticism and game-changing ability.
On the lacrosse field, Yeboah-Kodie played a key role in Garden City’s New York State championship success before continuing his athletic career at the Division I level at Brown University. Beyond his achievements, his work ethic, character and commitment to excellence have made him a lasting role model for future generations of Trojan athletes.
For decades, coach Heedles was a cornerstone of Garden City athletics, impacting the lives of countless student-athletes through his leadership, passion and mentorship. Throughout his career, he served as the varsity girls soccer coach, varsity bowling coach, JV boys tennis coach and coach of numerous middle school teams.
Under Heedles’ guidance, the girls soccer program earned two New York State championships and established a tradition of excellence that continues today. While his teams achieved remarkable success, coach Heedles’ greatest legacy is the positive influence he has had on generations of students, helping them grow both as athletes and as individuals.
“These honors are a testament to the incredible careers and lasting legacies that continue to inspire the Garden City community,” said Ed Ramirez, Garden City athletic director. “Trojan Nation is proud of all they have accomplished and for their dedication and leadership.”
