Garden City Middle School German language students participated in the 69th annual German-American Steuben Day Parade in New York City. The students marched alongside their classmates and chaperones along Fifth Avenue from 67th to 86th Street, joining bands, groups and organizations celebrating German, Austrian and Swiss heritage.

The annual parade, which began in 1957, celebrates the contributions and traditions of German-American communities in the United States and is named in honor of Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben, a Prussian-born general who served under Gen. George Washington during the American Revolutionary War.

Following the parade, students and their chaperones continued their day in New York City with ice cream outside the Guggenheim Museum and a visit to the Ancient Playground in Central Park. The experience gave students an opportunity to connect their classroom learning with German-American culture while enjoying a memorable day together.
