Garden City High School is proud to announce that 14 members of the Class of 2027 have been named Commended Students in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program.

The students recognized are Rebecca Chau, Gianluca Damiano, Mathew DeAlbuquerque, Mihir Goyal, Grace Kumpel, Ryan Lotito, Kaitlyn McDonald, Genevieve Mohan, Ibrahim Rana, Trisha Samanpure, John Schinn, William Schwarz, Juliet Stampfel and Azra Zirhli.

Commended Students are recognized for their strong academic performance on the 2026 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. This year’s honorees are among approximately 34,000 students nationwide selected for their exceptional academic promise and were identified from more than 1.5 million participants in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program. 

While Commended Students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, their recognition reflects their placement among the top 50,000 scorers nationwide.
