Garden City High School Class of 2027 students Jack Armstrong, Taylor Maguire and Tiffany Zhang have been named Semifinalists in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program.

These students are among approximately 16,000 high school seniors nationwide to receive this distinction, placing them in an exceptionally select group of students recognized for their academic achievement. Approximately 1.5 million students entered the competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

As Semifinalists, Jack, Taylor and Tiffany will now have the opportunity to advance to the Finalist stage. To be considered, students must complete a detailed application that includes their academic record, leadership and extracurricular activities, community involvement, employment, honors and an essay. Finalists must also receive a recommendation from a school official and submit SAT or ACT scores.

Approximately 6,700 National Merit Scholarships, totaling nearly $24 million, are expected to be awarded next spring to students who advance through the competition.

“We are very proud of Jack, Taylor and Tiffany and this well-deserved recognition,” said Garden City High School Principal Mr. Kevin Steingruebner. “Their academic accomplishments, involvement beyond the classroom and leadership within the school community reflect the many qualities that make them outstanding students.”
