GC community comes together to make Class of 2026 outside commencement celebration possible

On June 27, Garden City High School held its 92nd annual commencement ceremony on Warren King Field due to the tremendous efforts of dedicated parents, students and community members who helped make the outside celebration possible.
The ceremony, which is traditionally held outdoors, had initially been moved inside due to the forecasted weather. Principal Mr. Kevin Steingruebner asked parent and student volunteers to assist with the setup beginning at 7:30 a.m. on graduation day, but volunteers began arriving as early as 6 a.m. to help move and arrange chairs, prepare the band setup, clean the bleachers and assist with any other needs.
Working alongside Garden City administrators and the custodial team, led by Head Custodian Mr. Tom Nocella, volunteers helped transform the gymnasium setup into an outdoor graduation ceremony on Warren King Field in just a few short hours. Mr. Steingruebner provided direction throughout the morning, and the team worked together seamlessly to ensure everything was ready for graduates and their families.
“It was really an amazing collaborative effort,” said Mr. Steingruebner. “The dedication and collaboration of our parents, students, staff and community members to step in, work together and make this happen truly represents the spirit of Garden City.”
The Garden City School District would like to thank the parent and student volunteers, administrators and members of the custodial team who helped make this year’s commencement ceremony a memorable celebration.
