Garden City Middle School eighth graders honored at annual awards ceremony

On June 15, Garden City Middle School eighth graders were honored at the annual Eighth Grade Awards Breakfast and Ceremony, which celebrated their achievements and contributions throughout the school year. The ceremony recognized exceptional students for their academic, artistic, athletic and community service accomplishments.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kusum Sinha and building administration congratulated students on their achievements and encouraged them to continue pursuing their passions while always remaining humble and kind. Each award was then presented by a faculty member or community member who recognized the students’ dedication, character and accomplishments.
The American Legion Awards, presented to students who exemplify qualities such as courage, honor, leadership and service, were awarded to Ester Kenny and Dylan Ferrucci. The World Language Awards, which recognize students for superior scholarship, outstanding achievement and commitment to language learning, were presented to Grace Santare (Spanish), Mackenzie Fitzpatrick (Italian) and Kate Foley (German).
The Citizenship Award, which recognizes students who promote citizenship through school and community involvement while demonstrating a positive attitude toward their classmates, school and community, was presented to Caitlin O’Mullan and Carol Ann Aiosa. The Lavorino Award, presented to a student who demonstrates a commitment to school and community service and has a willingness to help others, was given to Dermot Smith.
The Triple C Awards, which recognizes students who demonstrate character, courage and commitment, were awarded to Sarah Mundia and Sophia Mundia. The Lawson Art Award, honoring outstanding achievement in art through artistry, character and creativity, was presented to Emmett Owens.
The Music Awards honor outstanding achievement in orchestra, chorus and band through musicianship, character and leadership, and were presented to Sabrina Bilello (chorus), Avery Xiao (orchestra) and Emmett Owens (band).
The Holman Top Male Athlete Award, recognizing outstanding athletic achievement and sportsmanship, was presented to Braden Phalgoo, while the Finnernan Top Female Athlete Award was presented to Katelyn Parker. The Robert Allen Top Scholar Athlete Awards, which recognize students who have demonstrated both athletic achievement and academic excellence throughout their middle school careers, were awarded to Mackenzie Fitzpatrick and Matthew Kumpel.
The Carol Smith Award, presented to the eighth grader with the highest cumulative GPA, was awarded to Matthew Kumpel.
Congratulations to all the Garden City Middle School eighth graders recognized for their outstanding accomplishments, dedication and commitment to excellence.
