A total of 116 Garden City High School students recently participated in the National Italian Exam sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Italian under the direction of Italian teachers Lisa Malaszczyk and Giovanni D’Ambrosio.

The web-based proficiency and performance assessment evaluates students’ written and oral interpretation skills in alignment with the ACTFL Performance Descriptors and Proficiency Guidelines. The exam provides students with an opportunity to showcase their language skills alongside more than 6,000 high school Italian students from across the country who participate each year.

Through the NIE, AATI recognizes student achievement through an extensive regional and national awards program that includes monetary prizes, study trips to Italy, medals and certificates. The program celebrates students at all levels of language proficiency and highlights their dedication to developing their Italian language skills.
