Social Studies Department's Core Beliefs
We believe social studies education should empower students to be civic-minded, informed, engaged, and active citizens in our democracy.
We believe students should be exposed to various perspectives and develop historical thinking skills to have a robust understanding of the past and how it can inform the future.
We believe that studying history helps students be open-minded, curious, resilient, optimistic, accepting, and empathetic.
We believe that students should be able to read, annotate, analyze documents, think critically, ask questions, construct evidence-based claims (both written and spoken), and develop news/media Literacy skills.
