Garden City Public Schools proudly joined the global celebration of International Dot Day on Sept. 12, a day dedicated to fostering creativity, courage and collaboration. Inspired by Peter H. Reynolds’ book “The Dot,” students across the district took part in activities that encouraged them to “make their mark.” From art projects to STEAM challenges, read alouds and writing activities, each task empowered students to discover their abilities and embrace self-expression.
“This event is a meaningful celebration of the impact of literature on our learning community,” said Director of Literacy K-12 Lauren Kaufman. “It’s wonderful to see the themes of collaboration, creativity and courage come to life across all grade levels. International Dot Day truly showcases how a story like “The Dot” can bring students and staff together in a joyful, inspiring way.”
Throughout the day, students worked on a variety of projects aimed at promoting creativity and teamwork. Some classrooms explored how art and technology intersect through digital art projects, while others engaged in group-based STEAM activities, using science and engineering principles to solve problems creatively. The unifying theme was to help students recognize their own potential and how collaboration can enhance individual contributions.
Garden City Public Schools remains committed to encouraging students to explore their creative potential and foster collaboration and courage in their learning journey. The event was a huge success, leaving a lasting impact on both students and teachers.
