Garden City Public Schools officially kicked off the 2024-2025 academic year with a memorable Superintendent’s Conference Day on Aug. 29. The day was filled with inspiration, recognition, and heartfelt moments as the district’s faculty and staff gathered to prepare for the upcoming school year.
The event began with the singing of the national anthem by senior Ava Milone, setting a patriotic and uplifting tone for the day. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kusum Sinha then welcomed the attendees, reflecting on the impact that the district's staff has on students and the community. "I want to start with the simple phrase: 'Because of you,’” Dr. Sinha said. “It may seem small, but it’s powerful. It encapsulates everything that makes Garden City special. The lifeblood of this community, is you—our extraordinary faculty and staff."
Adding to the significance of the day were keynote speeches by seniors Catherine Clavin and Michael Tusiani-Eng, who shared personal stories about how teachers and staff have positively influenced their lives. Catherine spoke about the lasting impact of her bus driver and several teachers, while Michael highlighted the cafeteria staff and the teachers who have left a mark on him. Their heartfelt speeches resonated with the audience, reminding everyone of the deep, often unseen, connections formed within the school community.
Additional remarks were provided from SEPTA President Shanna Maier, PTA President Elect Chrisann Newransky, and the district’s newest board of education trustee, Kristen Pappas. Each leader expressed their enthusiasm for the upcoming school year and their deep appreciation for the staff's dedication and hard work. Shanna Maier emphasized the importance of inclusive education and ongoing support for all students, while Chrisann Newransky and Kristen Pappas shared their excitement for their roles and the opportunity to contribute to the district’s continued success.
