The Garden City Teachers' Association is proud to announce the 15th Annual "GC For a Cure" fundraiser, scheduled for Saturday, May 4, 2024, rain or shine, at Garden City High School.
This year’s “GC for a Cure” race will be held in memory of long-time teacher and friend, Mrs. Christine Kenney, who recently lost her battle with cancer.
Participants are encouraged to sign up today to run/walk in her memory and donate to the “Christine Kenney Scholarship Fund,” which will be awarded to a senior pursuing a career in education. The event will feature a 5K (3.1 mile) Timed Run/Walk starting at 9:00 am, followed by a 1 Mile Untimed Fun Run/Walk at 8:30 am. Participants will start and finish at Garden City High School, located at 170 Rockaway Avenue, Garden City, N.Y.
The Garden City community has suffered significant losses over the years to cancer, and "GC For a Cure" aims to raise funds for various cancer research and support organizations, including Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Kids Need More, Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, The Michele White Scholarship Fund, and this year, The Christine Kenney Scholarship Fund.
Over the last 14 years, "GC For a Cure" has raised over $300,000 for these organizations. This year's race will be bigger than ever with over 50+ raffle baskets, $4 La Bottega pasta meals (sold May 3rd from 5-7pm at the High School Cafeteria), face painting, baked goods, and music by Mr. DJ Entertainment. The grand prize for this year's raffle is an authentic 2022-23 NY Islander’s Jersey – signed by the entire team!
