Garden City High School hosts annual Hoops for Hope fundraiser
On Feb. 25, Garden City High School successfully hosted their annual Hoops for Hope fundraiser featuring the Garden City High School and Middle School challenger basketball team.
The gymnasium was packed with students, families, administrators and community members throughout Garden City, creating an atmosphere filled with excitement and energy. Posters from Stewart and Stratford students lined the walls of the gym and included messages of hope and encouragement.
The event was organized by GCHS student Katherine O’Hanlon in honor of GCHS student Bobby Menges who passed away from cancer in 2017. All proceeds from the day went to the “I’m Not Done Yet” foundation’s programs for adolescent and young adult cancer patients and survivors at NYU Langone-LI. Katherine began the afternoon’s festivities by thanking those who helped support the event and honoring the great cause.
The challenger basketball team played with both competition and kindness, demonstrating camaraderie and teamwork on and off the court. Halftime intermission featured exciting performances by the Garden City spirit cheerleaders, varsity cheerleaders, varsity kickline dancers and junior varsity kickline dancers, continuing the enthusiasm and spirit of the event.
The day was a major success, and the Hoops for Hope fundraiser continues to unite the Garden City community for a meaningful cause.
