On February 7th, Garden City Public Schools students in kindergarten through 12th grade came together to celebrate World Read Aloud Day.
The day included a variety of activities aimed at fostering a love for reading and storytelling.
One of the standout highlights of the day was led by Garden City High School students, who dedicated their time to creating captivating video readings
of popular picture books. These videos were curated and placed on a choice board, allowing younger students to select titles and immerse themselves in
the joy of listening to read-alouds over the course of the day and beyond.
Superintendent Dr. Sinha also joined in the festivities by sharing a heartfelt recording of the read-aloud Because I Had a Teacher by Kobi Yamada.
Throughout the district, various classrooms engaged in a myriad of activities to honor the occasion. Some classes had the pleasure of listening to live author
read-alouds, incorporating read-alouds into morning announcements, and creating family read-aloud videos. Additionally, students had the opportunity
to participate in buddy class read-alouds and even got creative by designing their own fun bookmarks.
Reflecting on the day's events, Lauren Kaufman, the Director of Literacy, expressed her delight at witnessing the collective effort put forth by students K-12.
World Read Aloud Day was truly a collaborative effort, and it was wonderful to see students of all ages engaged in the beauty of read-alouds, said Kaufman.
It's heartwarming to witness the power of storytelling bringing our school community together.
