On Thursday, July 6, the Board of Education appointed Judy Barbera as the district’s interim assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. During the 2022-2023 school year, Barbera served as a consultant with Garden City Schools, mentoring building administration and supporting curriculum articulation.
Prior to joining the Garden City School District, Barbera worked as assistant superintendent for instruction for 14 years in the Suffern Central School District, where she facilitated the design and implementation of the instructional program in that high-performing suburban school district. Her major responsibilities included curriculum and program development, assessment design, instruction and intervention planning, analysis of student performance data, professional development, and program evaluation. Barbera has also served as an elementary school principal and a high school mathematics teacher during her distinguished career.
Barbera earned her Bachelor of Science in secondary mathematics from Marywood University and a Master of Science in secondary mathematics education from SUNY at New Paltz. She also has earned certifications in school district administration, and school administration and supervision.
“I am thrilled to be continuing my work within the Garden City School District,” Barbera said. “I look forward to expanding my partnership with building administration and furthering our curriculum articulation work by creating sustainable, structured yet flexible learning systems.”
During the 2023-2024 school year, the Board of Education will conduct a search for a permanent assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction.
