Curriculum & Instruction

Curriculum Reviews

Led by the appropriate director or curriculum coordinator, each curriculum area in the district's educational program undergoes a five-year cycle of review:

Year 1: Spotlight Year. A comprehensive review of the curriculum takes place, from content to pedagogy. Focus is on unfolding the scope and sequence of the subject, i.e., how a student experiences the curriculum within the educational program and its efficacy as measured by local and state assessments. Recommendations are made based upon teachers answering three key questions: What should we continue doing? What should we stop doing? What should we begin doing?

Years 2-5: Departments conduct an ongoing review of the recommendations, their implementation, and their effects. Periodic reports are given to the Board of Education with an eye to returning to a Spotlight Year when the cycle resets.
