Art K-5
In alignment with the New York State Learning Standards for the Arts, students in grades K-5 will explore their creativity through hands-on experiences that encourage self-expression, problem-solving, and an appreciation for the visual arts. The curriculum fosters artistic growth by engaging students in creating, presenting, responding, and connecting to art. Through a variety of media, students will develop foundational skills in artistic techniques while learning to communicate ideas, emotions, and personal narratives through their work.
As they progress through the program, students will analyze and reflect on their own artwork and the work of others, deepening their understanding of artistic processes and cultural perspectives. They will be encouraged to think critically, experiment with different materials, and make creative choices that express their unique perspectives. Art also connects to other areas of learning, allowing students to reinforce skills in observation, storytelling, shapes, and pattern recognition. By engaging with diverse artists and art forms, they will recognize the role of art in history and society, fostering an appreciation for artistic expression across cultures. Through these experiences, students will develop confidence in their abilities, build perseverance, and gain the skills necessary to be innovative thinkers and lifelong appreciators of the arts.
