Art 6-8
In alignment with the New York State Learning Standards for the Arts, students in grades 6-8 will continue to develop their creative and technical skills while deepening their understanding of the visual arts. The curriculum encourages students to experiment with a variety of media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital art. They will refine their ability to use the elements and principles of design to create meaningful works of art while exploring personal expression, problem-solving, and artistic decision-making.
As students advance through the program, they will engage in critical analysis of their own work and the work of others, developing a stronger ability to interpret and respond to visual imagery. They will explore historical and contemporary artists, recognizing how art reflects and influences culture and society. Opportunities for interdisciplinary connections will further enrich their learning, as they apply skills in observation, communication, and creative thinking across subjects. Through these experiences, students will build confidence in their artistic abilities, strengthen their visual literacy, and develop a deeper appreciation for the role of art in their lives and the world around them.
